Charter of the independent network all2all
all2all is an independent Internet network operated by Moving Art Studio ASBL/VZW, a Belgian non-profit association.
The charter describes the position from which the network was built: free infrastructure, technical autonomy, protection of personal data and access to open communication tools for associations, artists, organisations, small structures and individuals.
Origin
Moving Art Studio was founded in 1994 in the context of visual arts, artist studios, exhibitions, meetings and conferences. During the 1990s, part of its work moved toward electronic art, cryptography, free software and Internet infrastructure.
At the end of 1999 this led to all2all: an independent hosting and communication infrastructure, created as an alternative to an increasingly commercial Internet market.
Purpose
all2all aims to keep communication infrastructure open and usable “from all to all”.
The network is built on free and open-source software, with particular attention to:
- freedom of expression within the limits of the law
- privacy and data protection
- technical transparency
- open standards
- long-term maintainability
- independence from commercial profiling and lock-in
Responsibility and content
all2all does not pre-screen content and does not apply prior censorship unless there is a clear illegal situation or a legal decision.
Users remain responsible for the content and activities they publish or operate through the infrastructure. They must respect Belgian, European and international law and the acceptable use policy.
Free software and open standards
The technical foundation of all2all is free and open-source software. Debian GNU/Linux has long been the basis of the server infrastructure.
This choice is technical, but also organisational: systems should remain understandable, documented, repairable and transferable.
Shared infrastructure
User contributions finance the common infrastructure: servers, network, bandwidth, maintenance, backups, security and support.
This model makes it possible to provide services without advertising, tracking or commercial profiling.
Privacy
all2all uses personal data only for the operation, administration and legal processing of its services.
